Disney Cruise Formal Night! What do I wear?

Formal night also known as the Captain’s Dinner gives its guest the opportunity to dress in style. Men can pull that tuxedo out of the back of the closet that they bought 10 years ago for a just in case moment.  The women can pull out that gown-you know the one that looks like the other gown but not that gown… Significant others thinking it is actually a new gown they knew nothing about. Lastly the princesses and princes can feel like royalty because they are the ones that are going to get all the ooooohs and aaaaahs. The real question you probably have is, “What do I really wear???”. Well, the good news is that there is no right or wrong answer here.

You can go all out and really dress up, go cruise casual, or put your clothes on from the day before. We did it all and yes including the clothes from the day before. What!? I wore a cool button up shirt that I realized I should have saved for formal night.

If you do dress up it is totally fine and you will not feel overdressed. Especially during the cocktail hour where there will be plenty of free drinks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic floating around. On the flipside, if you choose not to dress up there will be others that chose to keep on their shorts and t-shirts.  The main thing is that you should do what feels comfortable for you. The added bonus is that you can take advantage of all the photo stations and take pictures with Mickey and Minnie in their fancy formal attire.

This is what my family and I do…

After a few trial and errors we figured out what best works for us. For myself honestly it is a little annoying for me to pack a full suit. We tend to try and pack light and a suit takes up valuable packing real estate. I like to wear casual dress pants, dress shirt, and a formal wear vest with tie. The pants can also be used for dining at Remy or Palo, that eliminates the need for extra bottoms. The vest can complete the formal look without needing a jacket. It can pack small and takes up almost no room what so ever. I generally wear my sneakers because I like keeping a little casual style but if I do take shoes they are a slip on style but not leather. Non leather shoes are easy to fit in a suitcase and hide creases from over packing. Toya packs a little black dress. Every woman knows you can not go wrong with that. If you do not prefer black, any night on the town style would do. Try to avoid dresses with lots of stones or flashy designs on it.  It can get heavy in your suitcase and you would have to worry about the stones falling off.  The kids still wear poofy dresses. We can handle those because the sizes are small enough to fold pretty tight and put in a space saver bag.

No matter what you decide to wear you will fit right in. I hope that helped your decision making. Happy cruising.
