Adult Life on the Ship

When you hear Disney you automatically may not link it with adult activities.  Despite the iconic Disney’s obvious connection to children, Disney and DCL have plenty of activities and entertainment for adult enjoyment. Some of them I have tried and some I have not but I will give you my honest opinion on the ones I have experienced.

Sooooo lets start off with what I would think is the number one question, the nightclubs. Each ship has themed areas that are strictly for 18 and over at night. During the day my family and I explored the areas while my wife and I were really eyeing up which club or bar we wanted to hit while the kids were in the kids club. Now here is my opinion-if you are a partier and want to relive your college days or you are in college and want to party with other college aged folks, this is likely not for you. The surroundings are set up for shenanigans like that, but it just does not generally draw that type of crowd. Just think, most people been up since 6am because-well, kids. Kids are thinking, “We are on a frickn Disney ship why are you still sleeping???”  So many families are done by 10 pm and just want to go to bed. My wife and I were the I want to party all night people in our early cruise days but now we love just hanging out in the lounges and people watch. It tends to be relaxing and gives us some nice quiet and quality time without the kids asking for ice-cream for the 20th time in the day. If you are a young adult, try finding a facebook group before you set sail that is traveling at the same time. Some times there are unofficial Disney meet up groups that you can join.

Now here are some other activities. They have adult beverage tasting. These are done through activities online and sell out fast. If you wish to do it, sign up early. Spa is always popular but they also have something called the Rain Forest. This is a collection of different showers that mimics rain in a rain forest, hence the name. Each shower can range from hot to cold and have illuminating lighting. It also have saunas ranging from normal hot to I can not breath hot. No literally - I could not breath in there because it was so hot but hey you may like that. I enjoyed each shower and it gave different experiences. You can pay by the day or get a pass for your duration of the cruise at a discount. My wife and I got a week long pass and only went twice (me only once). We found ourselves doing activities with the kids, tired from an excursion, or ran out of time and had to get ready for dinner. Keep that in mind if you are going to get a week long pass. We felt like we were forcing it trying to find time to go in the end.

Adult cove is the 18 and over area on the Lido deck. Within this area is a pool, a bar, and the Cove Café coffee shop. While children or families may travel through this area enroute to other areas of the Lido deck, the Cast Members really try to keep this a pure adult area. The Cove Cafe serves GREAT coffee (at least according to my wife) and adult beverages as well. The coffee ranges from a pure Americano, to cappuccino, to cold brew, to Tia Mariá. Also, every 6th drink is free with your coffee punch card. Pro tip, store it with your key to the world!  And let’s not forget the free pastries...Patrons have access to fresh baked goods of the day, just ask!

Palo and Remy restaurants. Palo has brunch option for $30 per adult and I highly recommend doing it at least once. It does take time so make sure your children are ok hanging out in the kids club for a few hours. The food is crazy good. You have a menu option but while you wait for your food there is a buffet of other bite size foods and pastries that leaves your mouth watering like Homer Simpson.  It has a relaxed dress code Men: Dress pants/slacks and collared shirt is recommended. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). Women: Dress, pants or skirt/blouse is recommended. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). Although it is relaxed, they do stick to the rules (no exceptions). I made a mistake and put dress shorts on one time forgetting about the pants rule and was politely reminded that shorts are not allowed. Good thing I had my dress pants for formal night. Remy and Palo have dinner options as well. My wife and I have not ventured in dinner direction yet but we have heard good reviews for both.

The lounges have adult variety shows. Depending on the onboard acts during the cruise you can see them in one of the lounges performing. It can range from comedy, variety, or singing. There are also game show style games for the adult crowd that are enjoyable. You never know what will happen and just imagine your fellow cruise mates a little tipsy with no kids.

I hope this gives you and inside look and helps you have an open mind when you have some alone adult time.
